Children's Discovery Museum opened to the public on April 29, 2002. Since that day the museum has welcomed 70,000 visitors on-site and served another 37,000 in off-site events. In recognition of imaginative play as a basic need for the development of cognitive and social skills in children, the mission of the museum is to create dynamic educational experiences that foster lifelong learning for children and families through the joy of play. To fulfill its mission, the museum provides permanent exhibits, traveling exhibits, summer camps, and special events in a hands-on environment - this is one place where children are encouraged to touch.
