Meet our New Campaign Chair, Russell Janecka

The Victoria County United Way Board Chair Kelly Park of First Victoria Bank announced the selection of Russell Janecka to Chair the 2011 Victoria County United Way Community Campaign. In announcing the appointment, Park noted, “Russell has served on the Boards of several non-profit organizations and brings the passion, commitment and leadership needed to lead a successful campaign in challenging times”.

Mr. Janecka joins a long list of distinguished community leaders who have led the United Way campaign over the years. A Victoria native, Janecka graduated from Victoria High School, served in the US Air Force Security Service in Berlin, Germany, earning the USAF Commendation Medal. While overseas, he began his business education through the University of Maryland and later attended Victoria College. He joined his family’s independent insurance agency in 1986. He holds the insurance industry’s LUTCF and CIC designations.  In 2010 he earned his Farm Mutual Director Certification.

In accepting the leadership role, Janecka commented, “Like many cities across America, Victoria faced some of its toughest challenges over the past year. Many families in our community struggled to meet their basic needs like access to shelter, medical care, buying groceries and paying utilities.  Yet thanks to United Way, we came together like never before, leveraged every resource at our command and found smart new ways to gather more. We lifted our neighbors, and in the process, became stronger as a community by valuing each individual”.

For the 2011 campaign, our goals are simple, “to reach out to every individual and company in our community to help children realize their potential, develop strong families and safe neighborhoods, help seniors sustain their independence and support those who are rebuilding their lives.  We will do what Victorians have always done, demonstrate a quiet confidence, a stubborn strength that will not let us fail and be remarkably generous in giving of our time, talents and gifts”.

The Victoria County United Way 2011 campaign kicks off with its second annual Day of Caring on August 30, 2011.
